SEWING & SOCIALIZING
Bring your sewing machine, sewing supplies, cutting board and rotary cutters, iron and ironing mat, a brown bag lunch and a snack to share. We are planning on having several different projects that you can participate in…OR you can bring that UFO that you’ve been putting off finishing and socialize while you sew. We will have more information at the June meeting.

“FINDING MYSELF FLOATING IN COLOR SOUP”
Have you ever wondered where you fit in as a quilter? You may dabble a little in this, a little in that, and love it all, but then you ask, do I fit in? This lecture tells how I came to understand my uniqueness and found a place to fit in. My hope is that this will help you find a place to call your own.

WORKSHOP: “LIGHT THE PORTRAIT WITH COLOR”
Learn how to make your portraits shine with color! This is a one day workshop designed to help the student create a portrait that expresses the personality of the person in the portrait.
We will discuss choosing a good photo, how to expand the range of flesh tones, drawing to give dimension, how to add color to show personality, and how to manipulate value to direct the viewer.
Students are encouraged to use their own photos. Please be aware that students will need to step out of the class at some point to find a local photocopy shop to make 3 photocopies and one enlargement of their line drawing created in class.
Materials provided by the student:
Color photo (preferably 8″ by 10″) make sure it is clear and you can see the pupils of the eyes clearly
.005 permanent pen in black (Sukura-Micro Pigment)
Colored pencils (three different values of the eyes color in your portrait, and white)
Black or very dark color fabric for background/ base - approximately 32″ square
Pallet of selected fabrics with fusible (ready to use)
Teflon sheet to protect iron and ironing board
Wax free transfer paper in a light color (Saral is one brand available at Jo Ann Fabrics)
Parchment paper (available at a grocery store) for making individual pattern pieces
Light boxes would be helpful and please provide one ironing board and iron per 4 students
I will provide a piece of acetate for each student
